Jay Shetty is an Indian man born in London. He was a shy boy, who wanted to make a difference in the world. He was bullied for being overweight as a child, but he never let it get him down. He was introverted, but he wanted to make the world better, and see what the world could offer him in return. He was suspended from school for his attempt at epiphany on multiple occasions. Sadly, when he was 16, he lost his two best friends, one to gang violence, and one in a car crash. After this, he realized that life is a blessing and that he needed to find the deeper meaning and purpose that life could offer him.

When he was 18, he met a monk, and it was the epiphany he was seeking. He redefined what success meant to him, and decided that he wanted to live a life of service, impact, and passion, as opposed to one of money, fame, and power. He got a Bachelor’s of Science (with Honors) in Behavioral Science from Cass Business School. After this, he decided to start his path of change and went to live as a monk at 22, traveling across India and Europe. He left his suit behind, trading it for robes and a shaved head.

He lived out of a gym locker for three yearsJay Shetty Images, meditating, fasting, and abstaining from water. He would practice his meditation in extreme weather conditions (from burning hot to freezing cold, and he learned about many ancient practices in this study. He thought on timeless philosophies and sciences, trying to connect it all back to the modern world.

After his three years of study, he felt ready to go back to the life he had known, with a new insight on the world. He shared his new truth with everyone, even managing to get a job with the Huffington Post, which he moved to New York to take.
