Personal Life
Early Life: Anand Kumar belongs to Patna, Bihar, India.His father was a clerk in a post office. He studied in Hindi medium government school. The mathematics was best to him as a subject and for his own study he would travel to Varanasi from Patna every week on a six hour train journey. This was his deep interest that he got admission at Cambridge University but could not go there because of his fathers death and his family’s ill wealth condition. Kumar sold Papads in the evening and mentored students in Math to earn and studied in the morning.
Super 30: In 2003, Anand Kumar started super 30 program for poor students which included beggars, hawkers, auto driver’s children and other economically backward children.In the they scheme they are taught provided study materials and lodged for one year.His mother Jayanti Devi cooks for them and his brother Pranav Kumar takes care of the management.He prepares them for JEE -IIT.
Out of 270 students 236 have got the admission to IIT since 2002 while in 2010 all 30 students of super 30 scheme have cleared the exam.
Anand Kumar has his own institute named Ramanujan School of Mathematics (RSM) which he started in a Rs 500 rented house that has grew from two to 36 to 500 students.
